Microbial treatment of industrial and domestic effluents

Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, is researching into development and integration of bio-photo-electro catalyst system based reactor(s) that will treat domestic and industrial effluents. A novel approach of microbial consortia and the photo-electro catalysis towards enhanced biomass growth, waste water treatment and targeted biofuel production (hythane - hydrogen, methane) will be applied.

The Rs 3.84 crore project is supported by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The project will test laboratory scale prototypes followed by fabrication of pilot plant capable of treating 1000 l/d waste water.
